George Livingston, former Richmond mayor, has died

SAN PABLO, Calif. ? George Livingston, who was the first elected black mayor of Richmond, has died at the age of 78.
His family says he died Saturday at Doctors Hospital in San Pablo after a long battle with diabetes.
The Contra Costa Times reports ( http://bit.ly/AfCXaA ) that Livingston began his career in Richmond politics in 1965, serving three terms as member of the Richmond City Council.
He ran again and was elected to the council again in 1973 In 1985 when then-Mayor Tom Corcoran died, the City Council named Livingston as the new mayor. He ran for the office in 1985, serving until 1993 when he was defeated by in a re-election bid.
Livingston is survived by his wife Eunice and two children. Funeral services are pending.
