High school roundup: West Allegheny baseball stops top-ranked Hopewell

The Hopewell baseball team lost just once in its first 16 games, but the top-ranked Vikings suffered their second defeat in a row Friday, when West Allegheny was victorious, 10-3, in Section 1-AAA.
Tyler Amedure went 4 for 4 with two RBI, and Adam Larue also knocked in two runs for West Allegheny (12-6, 8-5). Matt Prevade earned the win after throwing a complete-game four-hitter with three strikeouts. Tim Hughes homered for Hopewell (16-3, 10-3), which also lost to No. 2 Blackhawk on Wednesday.
South Park 5, Chartiers Valley 4 (11 inn.) ? Nick Yobbi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th, which brought in the winning run for the Eagles (15-4, 10-3) in a Section 3-AAA game. Carter Grote earned the win after three innings of relief. Anthony Monaco had three hits for South Park.
McKeesport 2, Baldwin 0 ? Zach Krivda struck out 10 batters en route to a no-hitter to lead McKeesport over Baldwin in Section 3-AAAA play. McKeesport (3-12, 2-9) managed just three hits against the Highlanders (7-10, 4-7); Nick Bernick took the loss.
Plum 9, Woodland Hills 2 ? Plum (13-3, 10-1) clinched at least a tie for the 16th section title in school history with a Section 4-AAAA victory over Woodland Hills (2-14, 2-8). Chris Shaffer pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, striking out six batters and driving in four runs with a double and two singles.
Butler 10, Fox Chapel 2 ? Colin Williamson and David Tompkins each had three hits to lead Butler (13-4, 7-4) to a Section 1-AAAA win. Joe Palumbo homered for Fox Chapel (3-13, 3-9).
Freedom 6, Bishop Canevin 2 ? Freshman Nick Schwab struck out four and allowed six hits in six innings to help Freedom (12-6, 9-4) to a Section 1-AA win. Sam Beckey and Fran O?Connor each were 3 for 4 for Freedom.
Quaker Valley 8, Sto-Rox 0 ? Matt Delie threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 1-AA win. Nelson Westwood had two RBI, and Adam Pilewicz was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Quakers (9-5, 7-5).
Brownsville 6, Washington 3 ? Tyler Spohn threw a complete game and struck out six, and Phil Gnus and Jacob Bevard each had three hits to lead Brownsville (14-5, 9-4) to a Section 2-AA win.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Avella 2 ? Tim Mulvey struck out 11 and allowed one walk and two hits in a complete-game victory for OLSH (12-5, 7-4).
Softball
Peters Township 6, Mt. Lebanon 0 ? In Section 4-AAAA, Tara Konopka threw a complete game with six strikeouts to lead Peters Township (13-4, 8-2).
Seton-La Salle 17, Carlynton 0 (4 inn.) ? Lauren Zola struck out 10 and tossed a no-hitter to lead the Rebels to a Section 1-AA win. Zola also had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Jess Weiss had three hits and five RBI for Seton-La Salle (13-0, 13-0).
Chartiers-Houston 10, Bentworth 0 (6 inn.) ? Kayla Briggs tossed a complete-game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Class A No. 1 Chartiers-Houston (19-1) won a nonsection game. Rachel Tucker had three hits for the Bucs.
Brashear 18, Obama Academy 0 ? Anna Bruecken hit a grand slam and had five RBI to lead Brashear (9-0, 8-0) to a City League victory. Brashear scored 14 runs in the first inning. Kaylee Girdwood limited Obama Academy (2-7, 2-7) to one hit.
Sto-Rox 7, Chartiers Valley 1 ? Natalya Smarra went 3 for 3 and threw a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Class A No. 2 Sto-Rox (16-0) to a nonsection win.
