Indianapolis Wrongful Death Attorneys Discuss Arrests in ...
Updating a story we blogged about last fall, three Indianapolis residents have been arrested in connection with a home explosion that killed two people on November 10.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Mark Leonard, 43, his girlfriend, Monserrate Shirley, 43, and his brother, Bob Leonard, 54, were and arrested charged with murder, arson and other counts relating to the blast in the Richmond Hill subdivision in the far south side of Indianapolis.
The explosion destroyed five homes and damaged dozens of others. The explosion also killed Shirley?s next-door neighbors, 34-year-old John Dion Longworth and his 36-year-old wife Jennifer Longworth.
Prosecutors say that Shirley and the Leonard brothers deliberately blew up her home so they could collect the insurance payout.
According to the Associated Press, Pam Mosser, John Longworths?s aunt who attended a hearing for the three suspects, the couple suffered before they died.
?Dion and Jennifer died suffering and screaming. It is unbelievable to me that someone could be gambling and drinking while their house blows up and people are dying,? Mosser told the AP.
Shirley and the Leonard brothers face two counts of murder, as well as 33 counts of arson. Prosecutor Terry Curry said he is considering seeking the death penalty for the suspects?a trial for all three is scheduled for March 4.
We grieve for the Longworths, as well as those displaced by the explosion. If the accused intentionally caused the explosion, the Longworth family could be entitled to damages through a wrongful death lawsuit.
